Big Transformations in Small Spaces

This home is a beautiful colonial in Bethlehem, PA. It sits back away from traffic and the exterior looks straight out of a father of the bride reboot. To put it simply: the exterior house is gorgeous. However, the interior bathrooms had been a sore point for the homeowners for some time. The floors were dated, the cabinetry was builder grade and for all of the charm on the exterior, the interior did not match.

The shower was also an issue in general. Being that it was fiberglass, it was far past its lifespan and in need of removal. The only reason it had lasted as long as it did was that the bathroom was hardly ever used anymore.

The homeowners children were grown and didn't live at home anymore, but they knew that in the coming years there would be grand kids. In this brief period of time before their arrival they wanted to make the bathroom more fun while also updating the outdated space. :)

The overall tranformation was more extensive than originally expected. The contractor open up the walls and found certain areas not completely insulated, there was a gap in the roofing that needed to be filled and the plumbing inside the walls need to be completely updated (old houses, old problems).

As with every project, we started by creating a plan and proposed feeling for the space. We didn't want a stereotypical bathroom, but we also didn't want to be completely disrespectful to the homes unique style and age. With all of this in mind, we decided to add playful patterns, simple but impactful color and fine window details to this traditional bathroom.

The finishes:

Instead of aged brass or similar we decided to take the color a little more "transitional" and stick with a polished nickel. The polished nickel finish is both updated and stately specialy in this more traditional style faucet.

The fixtures:

Fixtures were kept within the Delta Cassidy line and as you can see it fit the space perfectly. The shaped of the faucet and shower head paired perfectly with the floral pattern on the floor and soft edge profile of the countertop.

The countertop:

This beautiful countertop is called "Firenze" by Emerstone and it is both subtle and stunning. The linear pattern immediately caught my client's eye and after several showroom visits, when we saw this sample return, we knew it was the one. We then went a step further and carried the typical 4" backsplash up to 6" to allow this gorgeous Ogee detail to the backsplash and edge profile around. This was a last minute addition to the plans but the client's trusted our judgement and let us do our thing. We are all happy they did!

The tile:

This entire set up was through Daltile (to the trade).

The wall tile is CC82 Marrazi Costa clara in their sage green color. It carries so much impact without being out of control colorful.

The floor tile was from Daltile Memoirs in ME20 12x12 petal pattern. It was the playful and fun pattern we needed for a bathroom that was supposed to be especially made for our client's grandchildren.

The wall color:

For the walls we went with Gray Mist by Benjamin Moore. We used the Aura Bath and Spa line. The paint is a soft white warm and in this case reflective green undertones.

The transformation of the bathroom remodel and overall effect of these pieces combined was nothing short of magical.

These accessories are available at Target. They are all Threshold items and available for purchase both in store and online.

As you can see a big difference in the presentation of the space was changing where the artwork sat on the wall. In the original arrangement, the artwork was behind the toilet.

Unfortunately, that is not the first wall you see when you walk in. In this arrangement we put the towel bar high enough above the toilet to be out of touch with the toilet and the art stacked on the most visible wall as you walk in. Little touches make a BIG difference in a home remodel.

I cannot tell you how excited our interior design clients were when they saw the perfectly staged bathroom.

The last picture is me the interior designer behind Sereine Home! Hi everyone!!!

I hope you all enjoy looking at the space as much and we loved designing it. It was such a pleasure to have worked with such an amazing team of contractors and clients.

Stay tuned for more!
